The Museums of Western Colorado and The Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce are pleased to announce that they will be honoring organizations, agricultural establishments and businesses that have served the Grand Valley area for at least 100 years. Criteria for recognition include: enterprises that started in Mesa County; enterprises that have operated in Mesa County for 100 years or more; and enterprises that serve Mesa County. A reception will be held December 6 at the Museum of the West, 5:30-7:00p.m. to recognize honorary recipients.

“There are ways that historic buildings can be recognized; however, there aren’t very many ways that historic businesses can receive recognition. Through the Century Plus Club, we can honor those businesses, farms and ranches that have served our community for at least 100 years,” says Museums of Western Colorado Executive Director Dr. Peter Booth. “These century enterprises mark the strength and durability of their free market and entrepreneurial spirit and serve as foundations in our community’s robust business heritage.”

100+ Society honorees will receive a durable outdoor plaque and indoor wall mount plaque announcing their membership; use of a logo designating the enterprise as a member of the 100+ Society; recognition as a member of the 100+ Society with the Museums of Western Colorado and the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce; and the option of creating a collection centering on the business in the Museums of Western Colorado Archives for future generations.

Applications for the 100+ Society nominations are available on the Museums of Western Colorado www.museumofwesternco.com. Please contact the Museum if you think your establishment qualifies. You may also contact Peter Booth, Ph.D., Museums of Western Colorado Executive Director, 970-242-0971 ext. 2204.
