Zebulon Miracle, Executive Director of United Way of Mesa County, highlights the importance of nonprofits in our communities stating that, “Nonprofit organizations are the backbone of strong communities. Nonprofits fill in the gap between public and private services and have a wide-ranging impact from health and human services to arts and culture to environmental and political causes. Strong nonprofits not only improve everyday life for every resident in a community, they are also vital to the economy. In western Colorado, nonprofits are responsible for 21,000 jobs and have an economic spending of $2.2 billion.”

Economically, nonprofits stimulate local economic growth and stability and move our community forward. Throughout the Grand Valley, nonprofits create jobs in various sectors, ranging from social work and education to fundraising and administrative roles. Additionally, the money spent by nonprofit organizations on goods and services contributes to the overall circulation of funds in the local economy. Their presence can attract businesses and individuals seeking to support and collaborate with organizations that align with their values, further enhancing our economic landscape.
