The Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce our partnership with The Civic Trust of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation to bring the National Civics Bee to Grand Junction. Our communities thrive on the foundations of civics, and we are excited to introduce this opportunity that will empower young students to deepen their understanding of civics, encourage engagement and contribute to their communities.

About the National Civics Bee

The National Civics Bee is a nonpartisan civics competition hosted in partnership with local and state chambers of commerce from across the country that encourages young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities. This competition invites middle schoolers in 6th, 7th and 8th grades to participate and flex their civics knowledge for an opportunity to win recognition and cash prizes.

This energy-filled competition will have four phases. A first-round essay competition will be reviewed by a panel of judges. The top 20 students will be selected to advance to the live local competition in Spring 2025. This in-person event will feature two rounds of civics questions followed by a Q&A round to test their civics knowledge. Winners from each of the local competitions across Colorado will be invited to compete at the state finals. The first-place winner will receive a trip to Washington, DC to compete in the National Civics Bee national championship in Fall 2025 and compete for prizes worth more than $50,000.

Students from public, private, charter and home schools will be eligible to participate. There is no cost for students to participate.

Why Civics?

By launching the National Civics Bee here in Grand Junction for middle schoolers throughout the Grand Junction area, Western Slope and Colorado, we are promoting greater civic knowledge in our youth and celebrating our civic pride. This competition enables students to explore issues that matter in their communities, furthering their understanding of civic engagement and fostering responsible citizenship. At the Grand Junction Area Chamber, we believe that informed and active citizens make for a strong community, economy and workforce, and that our continued prosperity depends on the strength of all three.

Stay tuned as more information will be announced about important dates, resources for competing students, cash prizes, and how community members, educators, and businesses can support and get involved!

Updates will be regularly made to the National Civics Bee landing page here.
