Each year, the Grand Junction Chamber closely monitors and actively participates in advocacy for business-focused legislation in order to protect and continue building the Grand Valley community. The 2022 Colorado Legislative session began on January 12th and in recent years the session has included a plethora of legislation that will impact local businesses and this year is likely to follow suit.

The Chamber is dedicated to working diligently to uphold our quality of life through our Governmental Affairs Committee and consistent messaging to member businesses regarding new, proposed laws locally, regionally, and nationally.

The Chamber Governmental Affairs Committee spends every fall carefully updating and revising the Chamber Legislative Guidelines which help lead conversations and decisions on which proposed legislation the Chamber supports. Once approved by the board the Governmental Affairs Committee can take action on proposed bills if they fall within those guidelines. These guidelines include sections regarding economic development, education, employment/workforce, immigration, health care, immigration, transportation, water and taxation, good government, and sustainability. The full list of approved 2022 Legislative Guidelines can be found on our website here.

With legislative guidelines carefully written and the Governmental Affairs committee ready for proposed bills – the Chamber embarks upon the Annual Legislative Days at the Capitol on February 24-25. This trip allows for local business leaders to convene with state legislators to discuss important topics including the business regulatory environment, transportation, workforce and labor issues, the future impacts of politics on Western Slope Business, how Western Slope businesses can engage further, and much more.

The Annual Legislative Days provides Grand Valley businesses the opportunity to learn more about what is happening within the state executive and legislative branches while building relationships with other local, business leaders.

The Chamber is committed to being the voice for area businesses on issues that can help or hinder our economic growth along with access to the latest information on what is happening in Denver. Through our commitment to our business community, we conduct the Annual Legislative Days, to connect, convene, and continue to be a champion for business advocacy.
