As Colorado Gives Day approaches, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible impact nonprofits have on our community. They are the heartbeat of Mesa County—a vibrant tapestry of organizations that step up to meet needs, solve problems, and create opportunities. Their work is often unseen, their challenges unglamorous, but their impact is undeniable. This holiday season, we have an opportunity to shine a light on these incredible organizations and the role they play in making our community stronger.

Nonprofits do more than provide resources; they provide hope, dignity, and connection. They fill the gaps where systems fall short and ensure no one is left behind. Their impact isn’t just about helping people in need—though that alone is reason enough to support them—it’s also about their contributions to our local economy.

Here in Mesa County, nonprofits employ 3,535 individuals—59% in full-time positions and 41% in part-time or seasonal roles. When you consider the ripple effects through local supply chains and the spending of wages, the total employment impact rises to 4,705 jobs, representing 5% of all jobs in the county. Financially, nonprofits contribute $191.7 million in labor income, representing 4.7% of total county wages. Their economic output adds $224 million to our regional GDP, equating to 3% of Mesa County’s overall economy. In total, their activity generates an astounding $409 million economic footprint.

But these organizations face mounting challenges. A staggering 81.3% of local nonprofits have seen an increase in demand for their services, while 87.5% anticipate rising expenses. This means the need for support has never been greater. When we support nonprofits, we’re investing in both compassion and prosperity.

This holiday season, I urge you to consider how you can contribute to the nonprofits that contribute so much to us. A financial donation can fuel their missions, but there are other ways to help too. Volunteering your time, sharing your expertise, or simply reaching out to say “thank you” can make a world of difference to the staff and volunteers who give so much of themselves to these causes.

It’s also a moment for me to share that the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to stand among the nonprofits serving this community. As a nonprofit organization, we rely on the continued investment and support of our members, stakeholders, and community partners. That support is what allows us to focus on the strategic priorities that drive Mesa County forward—workforce development, pro-business policies, and creating an environment where businesses can grow and thrive.

As we look to 2025, there has never been a more important time to invest in the Chamber. We are committed to being intentional in how we engage with our investors, ensuring every interaction brings value and builds authentic relationships. We’re focused on driving meaningful outcomes with clear priorities and measurable impact. And we’re cultivating partnerships that align with our shared goals and make this work sustainable.

This work isn’t always easy, and it isn’t always flashy. But it’s critical. And it’s only possible because of the trust and investment of people like you who believe in the Chamber’s mission.

Your support—whether as a member, a sponsor, or an advocate—makes all the difference.

So this Colorado Gives Day, (and every day!) I encourage you to give with your heart. Support the nonprofits that strengthen the fabric of our community. And as you do, know that your Chamber is here, working alongside you, ready to champion the causes and opportunities that make Mesa County an incredible place to live and work. Together, we can ensure this community thrives for years to come. Thank you for being part of this journey.
