Commercial tar sands mining has come for the first time to the U.S., where U.S. Oil Sands and
MCW Energy Group, both Alberta-based companies, have begun producing tar sands from mines literally right next door in eastern Utah. Learn about the new technology that is being employed and how the mining may be impacting our local economy at the next Energy Briefing slated for Wednesday, January 13th, 12:00 PM at the Mesa County Workforce Center. U.S. Oil Sands representatives will be providing the program. Other Energy Briefings planned for early 2016 include:

  • February 11th – The First Geothermal Power Plant, Developer Trent Yang
  • March 9th – John Benton, Black Hills Energy and Exploration

Cost to attend these sessions is $15, which includes lunch. Reservations may be made online at www.gjchamber.org.
