The Mesa County Leadership Program has officially crossed the halfway point in its 32nd year, continuing its mission of cultivating informed and engaged leaders who shape the future of our community. Each year, a select group of professionals embarks on this transformative journey, gaining firsthand insights into the people, systems, and decisions that keep Mesa County thriving.

Recently, our cohort spent the day immersed in local government, a critical pillar of our region’s success. From breakfast discussions with County Administrator Todd Hollenbeck and our County Commissioners on Mesa County’s ongoing initiatives to an inside look at the District Attorney’s Lighthouse Program, the day was packed with meaningful conversations. Participants explored topics ranging from waste management and behavioral health services to criminal justice, public safety, and emergency response—gaining a deeper appreciation for the intricate network of services that sustain our community.

The day continued with the City of Grand Junction, where participants engaged with city council members and staff over lunch before hearing from City Manager Mike Bennett about the city’s vision, challenges, and opportunities. This comprehensive experience, capped off with tours of Fire Station 1 and the Police Department, reinforced the importance of civic engagement and collaborative leadership.

For over three decades, the Mesa County Leadership Program has been more than just an educational experience—it has actively shaped the leaders who serve, advocate, and innovate in our region. With applications for the next cohort set to open in April, we encourage those eager to deepen their community impact to stay tuned for updates.

Spots in this program are always in high demand, and for good reason. This is an opportunity to connect with decision-makers, understand the intricate workings of our community, and become part of a network of leaders dedicated to Mesa County’s success. If you’ve been considering applying, be ready—the next class of changemakers is just around the corner.

Applications for the Next Cohort Open in April, 2025.
