The Grand Junction Area Chamber is hosting a business round-table for members on Wednesday, April 6th, 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the Chamber’s lower level conference room to discuss Amendment 69 which will appear on the ballot this fall. The amendment to the state’s constitution, if passed, will have a direct impact on every business and every business owner. Known as Colorado Cares, this ballot measure would create a single payer state healthcare system by imposing a 6.66% payroll tax on employers and a 3.33% tax on every employee. Additionally, non payroll income would be taxed at 10% to raise approximately $25 billion dollars annually. The total state budget this year is estimated to be $27 billion. The complexity of the proposal and the fact that if passed it becomes part of the state’s constitution is reason enough to attend this presentation and discussion. But how this might affect our economy, the quality of our health care system and the ability to attract additional talent and companies to the Valley are also important considerations. Representatives from Colorado for Coloradoans, the statewide campaign to oppose Amendment 69 will be on hand to share information and answer questions. Reservations are not required but are appreciated for planning purposes and can be made by registering online at www.gjchamber.org or by calling the Chamber office, 970-242-3214. Space is limited.
