The CMU20,000 initiative (15,000 students and 5,000 community supporters) is kicking off a second year of strengthening our workforce and economic development efforts by supporting Colorado Mesa University and Western Colorado Community College. Building on the success of a campaign last year to make students feel welcomed by the community, the Chamber is inviting area businesses to display “We are CMU stickers” and offer discounts or specials to students and their parents during move in weekend, August 17th to 19th.
Information about discounts and/or specials for CMU visitors and student needs to be returned to the Chamber by July 19th in order to be included in the welcome kit for the dormitories and added to the online communications. A fillable form can be found in this newsletter or at www.gjchamber.org. All discounts offered are subject to review and approval by CMU Administration.
If you do not yet have a “We are CMU” sticker to place in your business, please contact the Chamber office and we will get one to you. There are also other ways to get involved with the initiative. The first of those is to sign up as a CMU supporter at our website, www.CMU20000.com and like our CMU20,000 Facebook page, www.facebook.com/cmu20000.
In the months to come we will also be asking businesses to consider placing interns and supporting other workforce development initiatives, such as Making Senior Year Count.
CMU20,000 is a sustained effort to not just reach 15,000 students and 5,000 community supporters. It is a partnership between the University and the Community to grow together. Be part of it!
