Director of Program Development
Reports directly to the President & CEO
Job purpose
The Director of Program Development provides leadership and vision for the Chamber’s programming and events, ensuring they are strategically aligned with organizational goals, financially sustainable, and impactful for the business community. This position is responsible for designing, managing, and evaluating the Chamber’s portfolio of monthly programs and special events, overseeing budgets, cultivating and retaining investor relationships, and executing high-quality logistics.

Duties and responsibilities
Strategic Program Leadership
- Develop and implement a long-term vision for Chamber programming, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
- Evaluate programs for relevance, effectiveness, and return on investment, making adjustments or innovations as needed.
- Collaborate with Chamber leadership, staff, and partners to identify new opportunities for impactful programming.
Financial & Budget Oversight
- Create, manage, and monitor budgets for programs and events.
- Track revenue and expenses, ensuring fiscal accountability.
- Provide accurate financial forecasting and reporting to leadership.
Investor Relations & Retention
- Cultivate and steward investor and sponsor relationships tied to Chamber programming.
- Ensure recognition and engagement of sponsors, supporting renewal and long-term retention.
- Work closely with Member & Community Engagement staff to align programming with overall member value.
Program & Event Management
- Oversee monthly Chamber programming including luncheons, Networking@Noon, Business After Hours, and councils.
- Lead planning and execution of major events such as the Annual Banquet, Golf Tournament, Energy Summit, Health Care Summit, and Young Professionals Summit.
- Manage all logistics including venues, vendors, contracts, agendas, speakers, and on-site execution.
- Ensure programs are delivered at the highest professional standard and reflect the Chamber’s mission.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Supervise program staff and volunteers, ensuring accountability and fostering innovation.
- Build strong relationships with community partners, sponsors, and stakeholders.
- Represent the Chamber publicly at events, enhancing its visibility and strengthening ties with business leaders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, marketing, or related field; or equivalent professional experience preferred
- 3+ years of experience in program development, event planning, or nonprofit/membership organization management.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, secure sponsorships, and cultivate investor relationships.
- Strong organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers.
- Valid Driver’s License
Working conditions
- Primarily indoors, with frequent external meetings and off-site events.
- Early mornings, evenings, and weekends required for Chamber programs and events.
- Travel primarily within the Grand Valley.
Physical requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds, including event materials and supplies.
- Ability to set up and break down event spaces (tables, chairs, signage, equipment).
- Occasional standing, bending, and reaching during event preparation.
Salary range: $65,000–$85,000 annually, depending on experience.
