As our local business community continues to navigate the rollout of the Colorado FAMLI program, we at the Grand Junction Chamber are committed to being a resource for upcoming deadlines and requirements you need to know about.

With the opening of the employer portal last week, businesses can begin registering their business now. Employer premium contributions will depend on having nine or fewer employees. With January right around the corner here is a brief summary of the program rollout to date and an upcoming timeline of things you need to be aware of. Don’t forget – we are here to help! If you have questions regarding this or any other business challenge, just give us a call. We are here to be your advocate and guide along the way.

What is the FAMLI Program? The FAMLI program helps employees and businesses by protecting and supporting them during life events. Employees can receive up to 12 weeks of paid leave, with partial wage replacement benefits paid directly from the State, saving employers the cost of wages during an employee’s absence. While employees won’t begin accessing this benefit until 2024, businesses must begin collecting premiums starting January 2023.

What do I need to do as an employer? With January right around the corner, the FAMLI program employer portal, My FAMLI+ Employer is now available! Colorado businesses, third-party administrators (TPAs), and local government employers will use My FAMLI+ Employer to manage their FAMLI accounts. My FAMLI+ Employer will operate similarly to My UI Employer, allowing employers to report wage data, send premium payments, apply for exemption with a private plan, and upload letters of declination votes.

Most Colorado businesses will need to register in My FAMLI+ Employer before the first premium payments are due on April 30, 2023. (A 30-day grace period will be offered before the first premium payment is considered late.)

The portal is now open to all Colorado employers at: www.famli.colorado.gov/employers/my-famli-employer

With premiums starting soon, now is the time to prepare your business and your employees. Check out the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment’s FAMLI Program website: www.famli.colorado.gov/employers where, you’ll find FAQs, webinars, and tools to help your business prepare.
