At the July Board of Directors meeting the Chamber passed a resolution in support of the lodging tax increase being proposed by the City of Grand Junction on the November ballot. Shown below is the full resolution adopted:
Whereas the City of Grand Junction convened a working group of stakeholders in early 2017 to explore whether or not the City should pursue increasing its existing lodging tax by 3% in order to expand its investment in key economic development initiatives in the community and
“Whereas each 1% of lodging tax generates approximately $500,000 each year and
Whereas the increased dollars may be distributed in support of the following community priorities:
- 1.25% ($625,000 annually) to Visit Grand Junction for marketing travel and tourism-related activities that support Destination Marketing of the area
- 1% ($500,000 annually) to Grand Junction Regional Air Service Alliance for marketing, supporting and/or arranging additional direct flights to/from Grand Junction Regional Airport
- .75% ($375,000 annually) to Greater Grand Junction Sports Commission for marketing, promoting and sponsoring sporting activities, events, tournaments, competitions and exhibitions
Now therefore the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce formally endorses this ballot issue and urges the registered voter of the City of Grand Junction to vote yes on the tax you don’t pay.”
