The delayed Grand Junction Chamber Banquet will happen in person on June 11th barring unforeseen circumstances, so mark your calendars NOW! The theme is still a secret for just a bit longer but what is not a secret is the nomination process for Citizen and Business of the Year. Due to the delay, nominations are once again being solicited for these prestigious awards that celebrate the giving spirit of our companies and our citizens.
Past recipients have included individuals such as Quint Shear and Tom Benton, longtime Colorado residents who volunteer their time on boards such as GJEP and the Grand Junction Regional Airport and roll up their sleeves serving organizations such as Mesa County Search and Rescue and the 4-H Livestock Sale.
Businesses include both large and small, multi-generational as well as relatively recently formed. In 2019, Whitewater Building Materials was recognized for donating to over 50 different organizations and the award was accepted by four generations of the Gardner Family. In 2020, Bicycle Outfitters was recognized for 27 years of helping bicycling related non profits raise funds and fostering a love of BMX racing in young people.
2020 gave us so many examples of selfless acts by so many businesses and individuals so the nomination process should be easy. Simply go to the Chamber website, www.gjchamber.org to download a nomination form or notify Chamber staff directly of your nominee along with contact information and why they are deserving. We will ensure the information gets to the selection committees. Chamber board members and their companies are generally ineligible for the award unless there are extraordinary circumstances.
