With Election Day right around the corner, citizens of Grand Junction will select the new members of the City Council and will make significant decisions that directly impact the strength of our business community. As an organization, the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce has always worked as a resource to help identify candidates in these elections who understand the importance of interconnectivity between our economy and the fundamental role of government.
In recent weeks, a narrative has grown implying that support for business priorities means you do not care about social issues facing our city. Nothing could be further from the truth.
As business owners and employers, we acknowledge that it is YOU who shapes not only who we are now, but what our community will be tomorrow. The economic vitality that is created on the backs of every business in Mesa County is the reason we have the quality of life celebrated by those who live, work, and play here. The hard work you do to keep your doors open not only provides stable incomes for those you employ but also touches the lives of all our citizens through generous charitable contributions and support.
Business leaders are the first to raise their hands when there is a need within the community. We understand that it is important to not just excel in your business but to also be engaged in the community assisting with challenges in this community in a wide range of social issues.
In addition to the employment, charity, and volunteerism our businesses provide, the tax revenue generated through a thriving economy driven by those same businesses allows our local governments to administer infrastructure, public safety, and public services critical to the health of our community. None of this would be possible without strong business and thriving economic activity.
