Colorado Mesa University will soon be initiating a process to update its current strategic plan, last revised in 2010. The impetus for revisiting the plan is two-fold. First, the increasingly shorter nature of the institution’s planning horizon, for which most have no more than a five year timeframe, is due to the rapidly changing environment in which higher education currently functions. A second purpose for evaluating the University’s plan is related to a second process that Colorado Mesa University (CMU) will begin next fall: the initial phase of CMU’s next reaffirmation of accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Because of the new Standard Pathways process that HLC is implementing, all institutions recognized by the Commission are scheduled to complete an assurance review (formerly known as a comprehensive self-study) and conduct a site visit four years following its most recent reaffirmation. Because institutional mission is the primary context for the assurance review, an update to CMU’s strategic plan – also driven by role and mission – coincides with needs of the accreditation process.
As part of this process, the university needs to review the institution’s progress over the past five years and update the goals and objectives as needed. They need input from the University’s various internal and external stakeholders as part of shaping a plan for the University to continue moving forward and improving.
Chamber members specifically are being asked about what they value about Colorado Mesa University, what may be limiting its growth, and what should be its priorities for the next five years? Please take a few minutes and share your perspective by completing a survey at the link listed below. Your individual responses will be confidential; the aggregated information will be used as the basis for the planning committee’s work over the next six months.
Note that the survey closes Friday, June 5th.
